A simple locking-free discrete shear triangular plate element

چکیده
A new three node triangular plate element, labeled here as DST-S6 (Discrete Shear Triangular element with 6 extra Shear degrees of freedom), is proposed for the analyses of plate/shell structures comprising of thin or thick members. The formulation is based on the DKT (Discrete Kirchhoff Technique) and an appropriate use of the independent shear DOF(Degrees Of Freedom). The shear locking is completely eliminated in the DST-S6, without any numerical expediencies such as the reduce integration, the use of assumed strains/stresses, or the need for the stabilization of the attendant zero energy modes. It is shown that the present DSTS6 is much simpler than the triangular shear-deformable plate elements currently available which pass the patch test for thick to very thin plates. The DST-S6 has two extra shear DOF per node, but the extra shear DOF are the rotations caused by the transverse shear deformation, and there is no difficulty in applying the essential boundary conditions for the present DST-S6. It is also demonstrated that the solution of a pressure-loaded simply-supported circular plate of the DST-S6 avoids the so-called polygon-circle Paradox. Various numerical examples indicate that the DST-S6 is a robust and high-performance element for thick and thin plates.

Intra-ply shear locking
Intra-ply shear locking results in unrealistic fibre stresses and spurious wrinkling in composite forming simulations. Three remedies are investigated: aligning the mesh, applying reduced integration and using multi-field elements. The bias extension simulation is used to test several triangular and quadrilateral elements on their capability to avoid locking. Their performance under large defor...
متن کاملA Locking-free Three-node Shell Finite Element Formulation
A simple triangular shell finite element with fifteen degrees of freedom for the analysis of general shell structures is presented in this work. The element uses a substitute transverse shear strain field to avoid locking, and is formulated on the basis of RSDS-element (Resultant Stress Degenerated Shell Element) approach, which leads to very simple strain-displacement expressions. The substitu...
متن کاملLocking-free finite elements for the Reissner-Mindlin plate
Two new families of Reissner-Mindlin triangular finite elements are analyzed. One family, generalizing an element proposed by Zienkiewicz and Lefebvre, approximates (for k ≥ 1) the transverse displacement by continuous piecewise polynomials of degree k + 1, the rotation by continuous piecewise polynomials of degree k+ 1 plus bubble functions of degree k+ 3, and projects the shear stress into th...
متن کاملFree and Forced Transverse Vibration Analysis of Moderately Thick Orthotropic Plates Using Spectral Finite Element Method
In the present study, a spectral finite element method is developed for free and forced transverse vibration of Levy-type moderately thick rectangular orthotropic plates based on first-order shear deformation theory. Levy solution assumption was used to convert the two-dimensional problem into a one-dimensional problem. In the first step, the governing out-of-plane differential equations are tr...
متن کاملStatic, free vibration and buckling analyses of stiffened plates by CS-FEM-DSG3 using triangular elements
The paper presents the static, free vibration and buckling analyses of eccentrically stiffened plates by the cell-based smoothed discrete shear gap method (CS-FEM-DSG3) using triangular elements. In this method, the original plate element CS-DSG3 is combined with a membrane element and stiffened by a thick beam element. The eccentricity between the plate and the beam is included in the formulat...
